Power Grid Corporation of India has announced plans to invest ₹341.57 crore in two major projects. These investments are part of the company’s ongoing efforts to ensure stable electricity supply across regions.

The first project focuses on the evacuation of power from the Ratle (850 MW) and Kiru (624 MW) hydroelectric plants. This project, divided into two parts, has been allocated ₹218.55 crore. Part I will require ₹177.38 crore, while Part II will cost ₹41.17 crore. The completion target for this project has been set for July 14, 2026. This initiative is expected to enhance power supply in the northern regions, making electricity distribution more efficient.

The second project involves the expansion of the Tumkur (Pavagada) 400/220kV Pooling Station in Karnataka. This facility plays a crucial role in integrating renewable energy sources into the grid. The plan includes adding two 500 MVA transformers and a new 220kV line bay, which will support better distribution of electricity generated from renewable sources. The estimated cost of this project is ₹123.02 crore, and it is expected to be completed by May 20, 2026.

While Power Grid Corporation is making investments in infrastructure, its financial performance has seen a decline. In the third quarter of the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024, the company reported a 4.1% drop in net profit. The profit stood at ₹3,861.6 crore, compared to ₹4,028.3 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. Revenue from operations also saw a dip, declining 3% to ₹11,233 crore.

At the operational level, the company’s EBITDA also declined. It fell by 6.9%, reaching ₹9,537.9 crore, compared to ₹10,242.9 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.
