NTPC Green Energy Forms New Renewable Power Venture with Maharashtra Govt

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewable energy arm of state-owned NTPC Limited, has partnered with Maharashtra’s Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) to create a new joint venture company. The newly formed entity, named NTPC-MAHAPREIT Green Energy Limited, was officially established on April 8, 2025.

Ownership Structure

The joint venture follows a 74:26 shareholding pattern:

NGEL holds 74% stake (74,000 equity shares at ₹10 each)

MAHAPREIT owns the remaining 26%

Project Scope

The partnership will focus on developing large-scale renewable energy projects across India, including:

Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPP)

Solar, wind, and hybrid projects

– Projects with or without energy storage systems

The total planned capacity is up to 10 gigawatts (GW), with Maharashtra being the primary focus state initially.

The venture received necessary clearances from:

Ministry of Power

Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM)

NITI Aayog

This collaboration supports India’s target of 500 GW renewable capacity by 2030.
