Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) and GAIL (India) Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing LNG infrastructure across key railway terminals in India. This partnership aims to enhance green logistics by promoting the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as an alternative, cleaner fuel in transportation and terminal operations. Under the agreement, CONCOR will provide land and operational support, while GAIL will be responsible for establishing LNG facilities, including the installation of refuelling stations and associated infrastructure.
The collaboration aligns with India’s broader goal of achieving a low-carbon economy by shifting to cleaner energy sources. The use of LNG is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of logistics and supply chain operations significantly. Both companies aim to target high-traffic terminals initially and gradually expand the network across major logistics hubs.
The move is seen as a strategic step toward modernising India’s logistics infrastructure and supports government initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation. Both CONCOR and GAIL emphasized their commitment to leveraging technology and innovation to drive green growth in the country’s logistics sector.
