Ola Electric has made a bold move into India’s battery energy storage systems (BESS) market, which is currently estimated to be worth ₹1 trillion. The company has introduced Ola Shakti, its first residential energy storage solution, marking its expansion beyond electric mobility. Ola aims to leverage its expertise in 4680 battery cell technology and existing Gigafactory production capabilities to serve households efficiently, using its established Ola network for sales and distribution. This strategy allows the company to scale rapidly without requiring significant additional investment.

The Indian BESS market is projected to grow rapidly, reaching over ₹3 trillion by 2030. Ola Electric plans to scale its annual BESS consumption to 5 GWh (gigawatt-hours) in the coming years. With Ola Shakti, the company is addressing a growing need for reliable and smart energy storage solutions in homes, which will help consumers manage electricity usage and ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Ola Shakti comes with several advanced features designed for modern households. It offers instant power switching, which activates in 0 milliseconds, protecting appliances from sudden power loss. Its smart energy management system monitors consumption in real time, learns usage patterns, and optimizes energy use to reduce electricity costs. The system provides voltage protection across a wide range (120V to 290V), ensuring devices remain safe during fluctuations. It also claims automotive-grade safety, up to 98% efficiency, and zero running or maintenance costs. Additionally, Ola Shakti is weatherproof with an IP67 rating, making it resilient against dust and heavy rain.

Advanced capabilities include Time-of-Day (ToD) charging, smart backup prioritization, remote diagnostics, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and expandable modular capacity, ensuring flexibility and convenience for homeowners. The product is designed to provide uninterrupted online operation, making it a dependable energy backup solution.

Ola Shakti will be available in multiple configurations to cater to different household needs. The introductory pricing for the first 10,000 units is as follows: ₹29,999 for 1.5 kWh, ₹55,999 for 3.0 kWh, ₹119,999 for 5.2 kWh, and ₹159,999 for 9.1 kWh. Customers can reserve their units with a payment of ₹999, and deliveries are expected to start by Makar Sankranti next year.

Strategically, this expansion into residential energy storage is framed as a natural next step for Ola Electric, allowing the company to transfer its mobility battery expertise to homes. Ola views India’s energy challenge not as a shortage but as an opportunity for energy storage, aiming to enhance energy independence for households. By leveraging its existing manufacturing and distribution infrastructure, the company can scale quickly and efficiently, reinforcing its position as a key player in India’s clean energy ecosystem.

Ola Shakti represents Ola Electric’s vision to move beyond electric vehicles and establish a strong foothold in the home energy market, supporting India’s growing need for reliable, smart, and sustainable energy solutions.
