Chinese President Xi Jinping has issued a strong warning to government officials against pursuing “reckless” GDP expansion, cautioning that economic growth driven by inflated data, wasteful investments, or superficial projects can harm China’s long-term development. His remarks signal a clear push to shift focus away from headline growth numbers toward real, high-quality economic progress.
Xi made these comments during the Central Economic Work Conference, an important annual meeting where China’s top leadership reviews economic conditions and sets priorities for the coming year. At the gathering, Xi stressed that growth policies must be grounded in objective facts and aligned with actual economic conditions, rather than being driven by pressure to show fast results or impressive statistics.
The Chinese President warned officials not to focus solely on boosting GDP figures for appearances.
