Rolls-Royce has announced plans to double its sourcing of parts from India over the next five years. This move is part of the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the Indian defense sector. Currently, Rolls-Royce sources high-precision components from Indian suppliers for its civil aerospace, defense, and power systems businesses.
The company is focusing on sourcing complex parts, including advanced aerospace engines, naval propulsion systems, diesel engines, and gas turbines. India is quickly becoming a preferred destination for global manufacturing, and Rolls-Royce wants to strengthen its partnerships with Indian companies. Nicola Grady-Smith, the company’s Chief Transformation Officer, emphasized that this step aligns with the Indian government’s “Make in India for the world” vision.
Beyond sourcing, Rolls-Royce is also committed to collaborating with India in developing critical combat engine technologies. The company’s Defence Executive VP, Alex Zino, highlighted its focus on co-development opportunities to support India’s armed forces.
Rolls-Royce already has joint ventures with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Force Motors. It also works with leading Indian firms such as Tata, Bharat Forge, and Godrej & Boyce for manufacturing and sourcing essential components. As India strengthens its position as a global manufacturing hub, Rolls-Royce aims to deepen its engagement and contribute to the country’s defence and aerospace growth.
