Tesla officially entered the Indian market on July 15, 2025, with the launch of its Model Y SUV at a base price of $69,770 (approx 60 lakh). The debut coincided with the opening of Tesla’s first Indian showroom in Mumbai’s premium Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).
The Model Y’s pricing represents a significant markup compared to its global pricing—largely due to India’s high import duties, as the vehicle is currently being shipped from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory. According to Isabel Fan, Tesla’s Director for Southeast Asia, the company is “testing the waters” in the Indian luxury EV market before committing to deeper investment or local production.
