Cabinet approves ₹6,000 crore package for BSNL and MTNL 4G expansion

The Union Cabinet has approved a financial package of ₹6,000 crore to speed up the 4G network expansion of BSNL and MTNL. This funding will help the state-owned telecom companies improve their network infrastructure and expand coverage across the country.

With this support, BSNL and MTNL plan to set up around one lakh 4G sites to enhance connectivity and provide better network services to consumers. However, to fully implement this expansion, an additional ₹6,000 crore will be required.

Over the years, the government has already provided financial assistance of ₹3.22 lakh crore to BSNL and MTNL through three revival packages. This new funding adds to those efforts, ensuring that both companies remain competitive in the market.

To make the most of their resources, BSNL and MTNL have signed a 10-year agreement to share their 4G network. This partnership aims to improve service quality and optimize infrastructure, benefiting customers across India.

With better connectivity and a stronger network, BSNL and MTNL will be in a better position to compete with private telecom players. This move is expected to boost digital connectivity nationwide and support India’s growing demand for reliable telecom services.
